Thomas Paine

Thomas Paine was a famous writer. Known for some of his most famous works such as “Common Sense, The Crisis, Rights of Man, and The Age of Reason”. Thomas Paine came to America in 1774 at age 37. Just in 14 months he had wrote and published “Common Sense”.

He was born on January 29, 1737 in the town Thetford, England. His father worked as a corseter. When he was 12 years old he flunked school. He then became an apprentice of his father. He also failed at that as well. Now at the age of 19 Paine he went to the sea and worked as a tax collector for England. He got laid off twice from his job in just four years.

He then published “the Case of the Officers of Excise wanting a raise for all officers. In 1774 Benjamin Franklin helped Paine immigrate to Pennsylvania. In 1776 he published common sense he became very important in America and continued to publish more of his other famous writing and became a big contributor in the revolution.
