Benjamin Franklin

Born in Boston in 1706, and the fifteenth of seventeen kids Benjamin Franklin’s family didn’t have enough money to put him into school.  When Ben was 12 he worked with his brother as a printer, soon after the got into a fight and he ran off to Philadelphia where he started his own print shop then creating the Pennsylvania Gazette.

            Franklin helped the colonists and also helped stop the stamp act by informing the British that the Americans wouldn’t pay their taxes, joined the continental congress to help figure out what to do about the war taking place in England.  In 1776 he helped write The Declaration of Independence.

            The British sent prisoners to the colonies, and then Ben wrote in his newspaper to send rattlesnakes to Britain.  Benjamin Franklin drew the JOIN or Die political cartoon in May of 1754 at the beginning of the war with France and put it in his newspaper.

            As colonists got closer to fighting against Great Britain, Bens snake cartoon Became a symbol of American unity and Independence. In 1774 Paul Revere added Franklins cartoon in his newspaper The Massachusetts Spy fighting a British dragon.

            During the Revolution Ben convinced the Frenchies to help the Americans, he told them that if the redcoats win the British would be too powerful. French and British were enemies, so if Great Britain was extremely powerful it would be bad for the French. Franklin became quite popular after the colonists won.

            Ben Franklin helped write the Constitution of the U.S. he signed the 4 most important documents for our country, which were the Declaration of Independence, The Treaty of Alliance, and the Constitution also including the Treaty of Paris in 1783, there for Benjamin Franklin did many things to help this country out.
